This is a continuation from my previous post some months ago (sorry about that). My only advice on this issue is to make sure your child/young adult is returning home as their insurance is coming to an end. I have found that the best way to ensure this is to have the insurance run from Jan to Dec. Why is this the best way to organize it? Well you can be sure your offspring want to get their Christmas presents so will be home for them. If the insurance were to laps in Summer then yes you can extend it however the insurance companies don't have to grant this extension. If that happens then it WILL cost you not just an arm and a leg but a whole upper body to get American medical insurance cover.
To give you some idea of medical insurance cost, here in the UK student worldwide medical insurance with personal liability will cost around £200 (ish). In America and educational establishments preferred insurer's cover will cost you around $800 (approximatly £500). However, it may not include personal liability insurance nor the cost of medivac flights home in an emergency.
Lastly, if your little bundle of fun does get injured then it is very important for them to complete the hospitals data protection release form as soon as possible so that the insurance company can pay the bill. You may also find that the hospital will not deal with 3rd parties especially from overseas. Most insurance companies get round this by using American insurance companies to act on their behalf. The other option is to pay the bills and claim afterwards. The downside is you may find the insurance company will only pay for some of the bill by declaring some treatment was unnecessary. Best get them to pay it.
Good luck!
